Night Blaze A Dragon Romance Dark Kings Donna Grant Books
This story took me by storm! I have loved all my "Kings" novels.I was peacefully reading along, thinking maybe this was going to be a more predictable plot. I should have known better! Bout a 1/3rd of the way in is a plot twist that makes steep mountain switch backs look like a straight, flat roads. OMG! was that ever wild. I couldn't put it down that rest of the day and just before falling a sleep (finally bout 11pm) I finished it. I am so waiting for the next book!
Donna does such a fantastic job of populating this landscape with so many super characters, so many storylines, so many avenues for those mind boggling twists and turns. There's not a book of hers that I have read that has not been thoroughly enjoyed and savored. There are so many of her characters that I want to hear their stories. Ulrick - yeah he has helluva of story to tell. Rhi - oh that one could be a goodie! The new fellow, Darius, peaked my interest for sure. And of course - Constantine, when do we get to him???? If I could go 10 stars I would. ~P~

Night Blaze A Dragon Romance Dark Kings Donna Grant Books Reviews
A lot of the books in this series seem to start off pretty slow and then around half way thru, really pick up. This one most definitely. I was kind of looking forward to Rhys' story and learning about what happened in Lily's past. And it wasn't nearly as exciting as I was hoping. With Rhys having lost his ability to shift, his personality had also changed a lot and he just wasn't the fun, happy go lucky guy he used to be. Which was sad because that was what I liked about him. But hopefully we'll be getting that back going forward now that things ended well for him.
We begin with Rhys having a hard time of things what with not being able to help his fellow kings the way he should be able to any more. So he's gone off on his own to figure things out and also to avoid Lily. But Rhi shows up and talks some sense into him so he finally goes home. Making pretty much everybody happy, but most especially Lily. The two of them slowly get a little closer but then Lily's past catches up to her. When her insanely abusive ex-boyfriend shows up and threatens her family if she doesn't help him onto Dreagan land, she feels powerless to go against him. At first. If nothing else, her time with Rhys has allowed her to find her old self again and get stronger. Though she still can't seem to find a way to go against her ex despite wanting nothing more than to do so.
Thanks to Henry doing something none of the Kings would have ever wanted him to do, he manages to find out part of the plan that their enemy is going to try in order to find the hidden weapon use a Dreagan employee to get an enemy onto the grounds without being caught. Time and again Henry proves himself and his value to the Kings even though he's only human and this time he simply went above and beyond especially with what ends up happening to him. And while I like the guy, I think this thing he's got going on with Rhi needs to stop. She needs to eventually end up back with her King damn it...if we ever find out who it even is.
Lily's internal battle of doing what her ex wants and doing what she wants is taken out of her hands when she is found out. But things are not at all what they seem and when she finds out what's really going on, she actually takes it rather well. And she plays her part in the plan the best she can. Unfortunately things sort of backfire and something goes horribly wrong. But only for a time. And something very good comes out of it.
With how it ended I can't help but wonder what the heck Rhi is thinking. Why oh why would she go to him?? I thought she was doing a bit better in this book but perhaps she's just getting better at hiding the dark that's trying to come to the surface. We'll just have to wait and see what happens. Oh, but maybe we also got a clue as to who her King is there at the end...at least to me it seemed a bit suspicious when they saw each other.
The biggest shock of this series came a little more than half way thru this book when we find out who the Kings' enemy really truly is. And here I was thinking it was definitely Ulrik...guess that would have simply been too predictable. With this revelation, it calls into question so many things that I had been thinking and that we have been told. It was a crazy twist that only means worse things to come for the Kings in the future.

Night’s Blaze was hard to read because you could just feel how hard not being able to shift was affecting Rhys. He's in a bad spot mentally since he's been unable to help his fellow Dragon Kings in battle. So he steps away from Dreagan and hides from the world until Rhi shows up and convinces him that he's need not only by the Kings but by Lily as well.
Lily's backstory is heartbreaking and terrifying. It has left behind scars both physical as well as emotional. I love that she escaped the hell she was in and I'm glad she got to start a new life when she started working for Dreagan. Her job working at the distillery's gift shop is what gives her stability, hope, and the chance she needed to find who she is again. Unfortunately, the past rears its ugly head and becomes a stumbling block in her endeavor to build a new life.
I loved Lily and Rhys together. Unlike the other couples, they have known each other already for awhile so their relationship is past the attraction stage already. There's been some serious sexual tension between the two for several books so we all knew they destined to be mates. It's very evident from the get go that they need each other and I loved watching their relationship develop from the first.
Donna Grant never ceases to amaze me. I never saw most of this book coming. The last half was one hell of a roller coaster ride. I can't even begin to contemplate what's going to happen next and I'm dying to know! Hell, so much I thought I'd gotten from the previous books just got turned on its head.
Night's Blaze is definitely the book which changes the whole series from here on out.
Also, if something doesn't change about that last scene, I'll be highly disappointed and angry. I already about threw my kindle across the room when I read it. Fingers crossed that things change and quickly.
