Secrets of the Tudor Court By Royal Decree Kate Emerson Books
The further I get into this series, the more I enjoy it! I wasn't all that in love with the first book, 'Pleasure Palace', but I really enjoyed the second, 'Between Two Queens'. This book I enjoyed even more! I flew through it in just a couple days and hated having to put it down. There are SO many books out about the Tudor Court and the influential people that populated it, and some of them are great, while many are just historical gossip mags dressed up as Historical Fiction. Ms. Emerson does a great job though of bringing her characters (who were very real people) back to life and making you feel for them.I've come across Elizabeth Brook's name before, but just as a quick mention. She's certainly not anyone who stands out from the Tudor period, and most authors just pass right over her, if she's even mentioned at all. Ms. Emerson though shows us what an interesting life Bess Brook lead, and that it was possible for true love to overcome in Tudor England...a place where gentle-born women must marry the men their fathers choose for them. Bess refused to do that and her and William Parr overcame so many obstacles to be together. Even when Queen Mary Tudor pulled them apart, they managed to make it through her reign to the ascension of Elizabeth I, who allowed them to be together as they should.
I was so disappointed when this book ended. I was hoping for it to just keep going. I wanted to read about Will and Bess during Elizabeth's reign, but I guess once she took the throne they lived a pretty nondescript life at court. Bess only lived another 7 years after the end of the book, succumbing to breast cancer, but I would have loved to read about her final years with Will. I see that she became an extremely close confidante of Elizabeth I, and the Queen was said to be devastated when she died.
Overall, I ABSOLUTELY recommend this book. I recommend the previous two as well, but just know that you do NOT have to read those books to understand what's going on in this one. While all these books are technically in the same series, they all can stand alone and be read out of order. I just loved this book, and now I can't WAIT for book 4...'At The King's Pleasure'!

Secrets of the Tudor Court By Royal Decree Kate Emerson Books Reviews
I like the history behind it and gave you an inside look at the Tudor Court. I would recommend this book
I enjoyed this story. I like historical based books with a twist. I recieved the book in a timely matter and was in great condition.
kind a drag on kinda book but it did ketch my attention in some points wish it did in more poarts tho
I didn't think it was as captivating as BETWEEN TWO QUEENS. I do enjoy reading historical novels which are based on facts and well researched.
This is not the best of the series - slow moving at first, but the last 3rd of the book was very exciting. I have enjoyed all of the books in this series. Very realistic.
I love the author, Kate Emerson. She is very good author. Everyone who will read the book, every just casual readers, they will enjoy to read more about royal courts, and lives between queens and kings in the period of rule by king Henry VIII. Everyone reads the book, I see it while I am in the libraries, in Brooklyn Public Library or in New York Public Library, a lot of people are checked out and read more and more, even who had never learned about the England's history on the fifteenth-sixteenth centuries.
3.5 Stars
This is my 3rd Emerson read. Her first novel was overly fluffy. The second was better, but more speculation. In this one, I believe she tried to be more serious. More factual, but she almost tried too hard to prove her historical points. She found a way to write "royal decree" and "Henry might behead you" into every other page. I look at Emerson books as Historical Fiction for Beginners. That's not a bad thing, but for those of us who know the history, it can get repetitious and we can easily skim. If you are not familiar with this time period "Royal Decree" (couldn't help myself) is a great introduction to Henry VIII's final years and the Wyatt rebellion towards Mary. I will give Emerson her due. In this novel I felt she was more historically accurate. It's an easy read and a nice break when you simply want to read something light, but not far fetched story telling like many of the HF books available today. I like that Emerson writes about lessor known Ladies in Waiting, keeping the royalty in the background. This story covers Elizabeth Brooke's entry into Henry VIII's court via Lady Lisle (Jane Guildford). Her life intertwines with The Dudley's and eventually William Parr. She joins his sister's service and the ride begins between being on the wrong and right sides at court. I enjoyed this one.
